Welcome to the Special Education Department

  • The faculty and staff are working hard at Bloomington High School South to ensure that students with disabilities achieve the knowledge and skills necessary to live independent and self-directed lives.  Research shows that most students with disabilities can meet high standards when provided with meaningful access and particpation in the general education curriculum and appropriate, high quality specially designed instruction and support services.  The Special Education Department works to promote educational equity and excellence for students with disabilities through its roles and responsibilities to:

    • oversee the implementation of Federal and State laws and policies for students with disabilities.
    • use research-based effective practices.
    • maintain good communication between all stakeholders.
    • have parents as active partners.
By providing positive learning experiences that facilitate success for students in special education through high-quality instruction, as well as collaboration with parents, students, schools and the community, students will focus on their positive attributes and recognize their individual strengths and achievements to promote their future success.
